Win a pair of tickets to Bestival on the Isle of Wight for a lucky reader – competition now closed

Bestival-2013

[This competition is now closed.]

If you’re based in the UK then you will probably have heard about Bestival at some point – it’s an annual music festival that traditionally finishes off a summer of live music and festivals all around the UK. It’s held on the Isle of Wight, on the south coast of England in Hampshire, which is where I visited last Monday (see my Postcard of the Week on Osborne House) and it’s on this coming weekend, from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th September!

Very excitingly I have two free tickets to Bestival to give away to one of my readers! Tickets would cost you £190/person if you had to buy them, so this is a great chance to catch some live music for free before the autumn rolls in! Although the festival starts on Thursday, you can turn up whenever you fancy, and the tickets include camping. Headlining the festival is Fatboy Slim, Snoop Dogg and Elton John, and among the hundreds of other artists are Franz Ferdinand, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bastille, The Roots, Disclosure, Rudimental, DJ Fresh, Jessie Ware…. Literally the line-up is enormous, you can check out the full line-up here.

I’m very fortunate to be able to offer you these tickets as they’re a gift from Shenanigans, an Irish experience hosted by Tourism Ireland in the Grassy Hill part of the festival. The winner will also get to be featured on The Well-Travelled Postcard with a guest post for this blog reviewing Bestival, all the live acts and Shenanigans, the Irish experience.

“You’re invited to get lost in a whirlwind of Irish adventures! It may look like a traditional Irish experience, but once you step through the door you’ll be whisked away on a whistle-stop tour of Irish… well… shenanigans.”

The Prize

A pair of free tickets to Bestival from the Thursday until the Sunday. You’ll need to organise your own transport to the festival (you can get Red Funnel ferry tickets here) and bring your own tent & other gear.

How to win the tickets to Bestival

So how can you win? It’s easy peasy, but you have to be quick as the competition closes at 6pm (UK time) on Tuesday 3rd September.

  1. Leave a comment below this blog post to let me know you want to enter the competition.
  2. Subscribe via email to The Well-Travelled Postcard by clicking the button to the left. (If you already subscribe then that’s all fine)
  3. Either follow @vstuarttaylor on Twitter or ‘like’ the Facebook Page. (If you already do one of these two then that’s all fine)
  4. To double your chances of winning, tell whoever you’d like to take to Bestival to enter the competition as well, that way you’re twice as likely to win!

The Winner

I will pick the winner at random from the comments below this blog post at 6pm on Tuesday (today), and I will email the winner to ask you where you’d like the tickets posted to. You’ll need to be snappy and reply to me by 9am (UK time) on Wednesday 4th September or I may have to offer them to someone else! Your tickets will then be posted 1st class on the Wednesday and they’ll arrive on the Thursday, all ready for the festival!

UPDATE: The lucky winner chosen at random is Nicola Marchant! Thank you to everyone who entered the competition and apologies to everyone who missed out on the chance to go to Bestival – make sure to look out for Nicola’s Guest Post reviewing the festival, which will be published here on this this blog at some point next week!

  2. I’d LOVE to win these tickets to Bestival because every year I’m the one who does lifts to and from the site for friends and family, and this year I would love to GET INVOLVED properly!!! I’d take my girlfriend with me who’s birthday is on the monday of Bestival! If we win, we’d also HAVE to dress up, as my mum has a fancy dress shop called Masqueryde, and she and my aunty make hundreds of costumes for Bestival every year! She even did some of the artists costumes!!! (but she’s very confidential, and doesn’t tell any one about it until after the event – so as not to spoil any surprises!!!) Anyway, weather we win or not, I’m glad I stumbled upon this website 🙂 And I’m also following on facebook! (anyone can also find my mum’s shop on facebook, just search ‘masqueryde’) And she’ll be happy to help any last minute customers, or even the winners of this comp!!! 🙂

  4. Hey, I entered yesterday for the competition but I was wondering if you could email about some travelling details, where to start looking etc. I really want to go travelling or work abroad but I’d have no idea where to start and how much money I’d need to save! Let me know thanks x

    • Hi Samantha, well think about how old you are, what other work experience you have or would like to get… Is it your gap year or are you looking to move abroad for a while? Try reading about different experiences & options, and talk to friends, and make a shortlist of what interests you the most! Then you can start to plan your budget, etc. Think about why you want to travel and that should help you find the answer.

    • Italy is stunning but it’s very easy to visit Europe on short breaks from the UK, so if you have a decent amount of time then I’d suggest you use it on one big trip to somewhere much further away, that you;re less likely to visit another time. At least that’s what I’d do!
