Win a pair of First Class train tickets with First Great Western

The kind people over at First Great Western have offered me the chance to travel anywhere in the UK, and asked me where I’d most like to go! This is a toughy. There are so many beautiful parts of the country I’ve yet to see, and how can I choose just one? But after a lot of deliberation and consulting friends for their opinion, I’ve settled on Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. As far as I can remember I’ve never been to the Cotswolds and my flatmate lived there for a while, and it always sounded like such a lovely area of the countryside! Another major factor that swayed the decision is the fact that Cheltenham is a regency spa town, much like Bath, which I visited a couple of weekends ago and loved! I’m already envisaging a weekend of massages, spa treatments, afternoon tea, strolling through historic buildings and country walks… I could even time it to see a horse race as well. If you have recommendations for things to do or see in Cheltenham then please do write them in the comments below!

And the best part of all is that First Great Western are also running a competition, called ‘I’m a Great Westerner‘, for a lucky reader to win a pair of first class train tickets to anywhere in the UK! First Great Western specifically serve the south-west of the UK, including the lovely city of Exeter where I spent three fantastic years at university. But the two tickets are valid for anywhere in the UK, to be used in 2014. Perhaps you’ve been planning a weekend away in the countryside like me, or a city break somewhere new, or perhaps you’d like to visit a friend living on the other side of the country who you rarely see… It’s really simple to enter the competition: you just need to click here and enter a few contact details. Et voilà! To double your chances of winning, tell whoever you’d like to take with you to enter the competition as well, that way you’re twice as likely to win! Hurry because the competition closes at midnight on Monday 16th December 2013.

So I’m curious to know, where would you go if you won a  pair of first class train tickets?

  1. Cheltenham is a great choice, though I would say that as I live there! Keep meaning to write a guide to the city but a few recommendations are cocktails at the Daffodil (an art deco 1920s cinema turned restaurant/bar) and trying to coincide your trip with one of the festivals, there are music, jazz, literature, science and food festivals as well as the racing. There are so many pretty Cotswold villages to visit too.

I was at Exeter uni too an haven’t been back for almost 10 years so if I won I’d revisit a few old haunts!
