About The Well-Travelled Postcard
Welcome! I'm Virginia, a travel writer / podcaster / artist from the UK, a linguist, graduate of European Politics & Languages, & serial expat. I began this blog in 2012 to inspire you to go explore the world, sharing places I've visited & opportunities to travel, work, study & live abroad! After 8 years of travel writing & over 500 posts, it evolved to cover all my interests, so I now also write on wellbeing, careers & painting, alongside travel. Click here to find out more...

Today was very special. I met the two astounding @londonsairambulance doctors who came to my rescue and saved my life on 3rd October 2023: Dom and Amar, as well as a paramedic Jonny and two helicopter pilots. 🚁 They explained how they’d landed the helicopter in the grounds of Chelsea Pensioners Hospital, used bolt cutters on the chains locking the gates (“no waiting for keys!”), to get access to me ASAP in the middle of the road near Chelsea Bridge.
Here’s a look back at the 🐓 party to celebrate @oliviamst’s forthcoming marriage in 4 weeks’ time! 👰🏻♀️ With help from the fantastic actors at @smoke_and_mirrors_murder 🕵🏼♀️🎭, @magicmikeliveldn 🕺🏻, the bridesmaids 👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️, and a huge brood of hens (aka her lovely family & friends) 🐰😈🪶✍️💒🥂🪩

Every now and again I try to catch up on sharing my favourite memories, as I’m so bad at sharing them in the moment itself!
This place featured much too heavily in my 2023, so I’ve happily waved goodbye to the year. Onwards into 2024! 💪🏼🤞🏼
We have an annual father-daughter hiking trip, each year picking a new National Park or coastline in the UK to explore. A month ago we spent 5 days hiking in Northumberland: clocking up 72km on foot in the Cheviot Hills up on the Scottish border, around Alwinton, the magnificent Bamburgh Castle and beach, around Rothbury and of course, along Hadrian’s wall, pausing for shelter under this tree during a short downpour. Fast forward a month, and this beautiful tree in Sycamore Gap has been mysteriously felled 😢
3 year anniversary with this handsome hero! ❤️ After this first year living together, with him cooking up countless delicious feasts, serenading me on the piano, and exploring lovely Kingston together, I feel even luckier to have Xander in my life than I did at our second anniversary! 🥰
